Relating Representations of the Symmetric Group and the General Linear Group - Haralampos Geranios

We study modular representations of the symmetric group and of the general linear group. These two categories are inextricably linked: results about
the representations of one group can often be translated into results
about the other. This connection is made precise by the Schur functor and
its right inverse, which allow one to pass systematically between the two
categories. In this talk, we will introduce the key objects in each
setting and review several well-established relationships between them. We
will then examine situations in which the connection is less transparent.
Finally, we will discuss a naturally arising open problem in this area and
highlight some recent developments and results related to it.
