Shashi Tharoor Says India Must Prioritise National Interest In Middle East Conflict

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor spoke about India’s diplomatic position amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, saying foreign policy should be guided by India’s national interest rather than party politics. Tharoor said he has consistently maintained that there is no separate Congress or BJP foreign policy, only an Indian foreign policy.

Tharoor said the attack on Iran raised serious concerns under international law, including issues related to the UN Charter and the use of force. At the same time, he noted that India must carefully balance its response due to key national interests such as energy security and the safety of millions of Indians living in Gulf countries.

He also said India should play a constructive role by calling for an end to hostilities, highlighting the impact of the conflict on civilians and regional stability. Tharoor added that diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions would serve India’s broader strategic and humanitarian interests.
