Nissan e-POWER technology explained
Nissan’s e-POWER electrified powertrain delivers instant, smooth acceleration, outstanding cabin quietness and excellent fuel efficiency. It has been a hit with consumers in Japan, where it helped make the Nissan Note the country's best-selling registered car in 2018. Fueled by this success, Nissan launched the Kicks e-POWER in Japan, Thailand and Indonesia in 2020. The company is also planning to launch e-POWER in Europe and China. Customers around the world have purchased about 430,000 vehicles equipped with this innovative powertrain to date.
The e-POWER system includes a gasoline engine with a power generator, an inverter, a battery and an electric motor. Used solely to charge the high-output battery, the gasoline engine always runs at an optimal speed. This leads to superior fuel efficiency and lower emissions compared with a traditional internal combustion engine.
By the end of fiscal year 2023, Nissan expects to deliver more than 1 million electrified vehicles, including EVs and e-POWER models, to customers around the world each year. Nissan will pursue further innovations in electrification technology to make progress on the company’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
