Heart Murmur | When to Worry | Parents
Watch as Parents Magazine shows when to worry about a heart murmur! It's easy to fear the worst when your doctor tells you that he hears a murmur in your newborn's chest. But many times, there is nothing to worry about. A heart murmur is a whooshing sound you can hear between heart beats. If your child has been diagnosed with heart murmur symptoms, remember three things. It doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong with your baby's heart. Actually, 80 percent of children have one during their childhood. If you baby is under six months old, your pediatrician may recommend further action. An echo-cardiogram, or and ultrasound of the heart, will look for congenital heart defects. These could include a narrowed valve, reversed blood vessels, or a hold between the chambers of the heart. Even the most common structural problems can go away on their own or be easily fixed!
