Summary of One Piece Episode 4

Episode Title: Luffy's Past! The Red-Haired Shanks Appears!

Luffy even stabs himself under his left eye (creating his famous scar) to prove his bravery, but Shanks refuses, citing Luffy's young age and the dangers of the sea.

While the crew is relaxing at Makino's bar, a group of mountain bandits led by "Higuma" enters. Higuma insults Shanks, breaks a bottle over his head, and spills drinks on him. Shanks and his crew simply laugh it off, which infuriates Luffy, who sees their reaction as cowardice. During the confusion, Luffy eats a strange fruit from a chest, which Shanks reveals to be the "Gomu Gomu no Mi" (Devil Fruit). It turns Luffy into a rubber human but takes away his ability to swim forever.

Later, Luffy confronts Higuma alone to defend Shanks' honor but gets beaten up. Shanks and his crew arrive to save him. The crew members, specifically "Benn Beckman" and "Lucky Roux," easily defeat the bandits. Higuma escapes by kidnapping Luffy and taking him out to sea on a small boat.
