State Museum of National Musical Instruments - Kazakhstan

For over 30 years the National Museum of Folk Musical Instruments was central to the musical history and culture of the whole country. Nine exhibition halls display musical instruments of Kazakh and Turkic origin, there also being many from other nations of the world. The museum collection includes more than a thousand exhibits. The oldest of these is the kobyz, a musical instrument, of Shaman Zharas, dating back to the 18th century. This is a place of fascinating excursions into the history of music. Each of the pieces presented here not only has its own meaning and purpose, but also a very interesting legend.
