BREECH BABY | Baby's position in Mothers Womb | Risks & Delivery Concerns - Dr. Shashikala Hande
Baby is generally in a longitudinal lie in most of the pregnant woman, especially towards the end of pregnancy. Longitudinal lie is when the head is towards the lower end of the abdomen and the buttocks towards the upper end. Most of the time, this is the position of the baby . But at sometimes 3 to 5% of pregnant women, this is the opposite. The head lies at the top of the abdomen, and the buttocks lie in the low part of the abdomen and sometimes during the delivery also if the bottom comes out first that is called as a breech delivery and this is called as a breech presentation. Breech presentation is not very common and you need to discuss this with your doctor, the mode of delivery when it is a breech presentation. Any babies can sit in that presentation, in this position, in the 7th months but until 9 months, it can change and become head on position.
