Artscape Bayside COVID-19 Singalong: Stronger

My wife @melonefalcone and I are newly part of a community-building full of artists at @artscapeto [Artscape Bayside]. Some of us had only been here for a month before we saw our friends, families, selves, worlds, and artistic careers put at risk when COVID-19 hit like a freight train.
 
We are lucky. We have a home. So many do not.
 
One morning, while feeling crappy about everything imaginable (gig cancellations, theatre productions up in smoke, writing contracts ripped apart) we thought, “let’s organize a balcony singalong!”
 
We sat down and shortlisted some songs that were accessible and fun and spoke to the moment we are all stuck in. Hands down, Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” won out! Why Kelly Clarkson? Because she’s f###ing awesome!
 
We put out flyers, posted lyrics and practice tracks along with a callout for participants on our page. Next, we chose a day, found a great karaoke track, slapped some sweaters on for the cool weather and blasted Kelly Clarkson from our balcony as everyone did the same. Mel conducted from the street to help people know when to start their singing gold, while our amazingly talented buddy @kannakko [Lisa Kannakko] filmed and edited the entire thing!!!
It was magical. Kids were dancing, people stuck alone were belting, folks we’d never met came out to sing, and most importantly, for a few minutes on a grey day in the midst of a world pandemic, we all laughed and tried not to demolish the song too badly 😅
