It is critical to correct hypovolemia in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) patient.
There are many reasons for this, however, the two important reasons are to reduce stress on the body and reduce the resulting stress-related hormones that in turn will help reduce the insulin resistance. The second important reason is to improve kidney's function and recruit it for correcting the acid-base imbalance.
Dr. Mobeen discusses the mechanics by which these two outcomes are achieved when managing a DKA patient.
