Do Drum Modules Even Matter In 2017?

Drum modules just don't sound as good as VSTs. Drum software is more powerful, flexible, and has deeper samples. So when will the drum modules inevitably die off and make way for pure drum trigger interfaces? I think the reverse will happen. Drum modules will get better and better to the point where the NEED for drum software is reduced to practically nothing. Eventually I think modules will get so good that the average drummer won't be able to tell a big quality jump from a $1000 module to a piece of drum software.
