Discover the City of Cotonou, Benin Republic

Cotonou is the largest city in Benin republic, and it is located in the South-East in between the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Nokoue. The country’s president and most government ministers reside in Cotonou. Although most people think that Cotonou is the capital of Benin, it is not, but it is the most developed city in the country, while Porto-Novo is the official capital of Benin.
Cotonou is the economic hub of Benin with a population of 2.4 million (2017: 2,401,067) and is the country’s largest urban centre. Its industries include brewing, textile production, and palm-oil processing. Efforts are also underway to significantly increase cotton and cashew-nuts production which are the country’s main cash crops.
