Decluttering Challenge. This is Day 4! #shorts #clutterfreehome

WELCOME to DAY 4 of the 10x10 Decluttering Challenge.

In this space, I will give you a bit of the WHY behind what I decluttered today.

I know that can be helpful to others who are new to decluttering.

1. A mitt with no match. I know it has no match because I've already done an entry way declutter where I paired up all the winter accessories. This one must have gotten lost among the socks.

2. Four pairs of worn out socks and a PILE of solo socks that I have been hanging on to for quite awhile.

Once you're sure you've done all the laundry - check in your linens. One spot I have often found missing socks is in the corners of the fitted bed sheets. But after awhile, you need to just give up and let it go. You could check in with your local school, scouts, girl guides, or Buy Nothing Group to see if anyone is looking for this sort of thing for a craft - you never know!

3. An empty cloth bag.

This falls into the "nice box, jar, bottle" category.

Just because something is USEFUL doesn't mean you need to keep it.

Having an EXCESS of these types of items is not useful at all.

4. A tea towel/drying towel that I just hate. I can't stand the texture of it and avoid using it, so no reason to keep it and torment myself. Sometimes you buy something intentionally and you don't realize until it's in use that it's not right for you. Let it go.

5. A pair of shorts that are too small for my son. I am able to pretty easily declutter clothing and keep minimal wardrobes by consistently decluttering as needed when I am folding the laundry.

6. A tank top of mine. This was another "laundry declutter". I realized that I just hate the texture of the material and don't like wearing it - so why am I keeping it?

7. A swimming cap - This was my daughter's but she hasn't been using it and gave the ok that it could go.

8. A picture frame I have had since my early 20s. I no longer like this style of decor with the messages on it. I kept it this long because it was a gift from a loved one and I did love that style at the time, but it's ok for tastes to change. We don't need to hang on to everything we loved in our younger years.

9. A Grade 3 education book that I bought for my daughter. She's now in grade 7 and obviously doesn't need it. The inclination would be to save it for my son who will go to grade 3 next year, but he hates workbooks and doesn't learn best in this way. So why would I keep it? This is an example of knowing your child and their preferences - and accepting them for who they actually are.

10. This is a baby mat that was made for my daughter over a decade ago. It's been well loved and enjoyed - but not everything can last forever, it's at the end of its life and letting go of this doesn't let go of the amazing memories I have of my daughter as a baby.
Let me know what you decluttered in the comments below! If you have any questions during this challenge, don't be afraid to ask!

Happy Decluttering!
