A brief look at turbines with two-blades, direct drives, and vertical axes
This is a third video in a series that explores variations in wind turbine design. For instance, two blade turbines are getting attention because their rotors are lighter and less expensive than three blade rotors. Direct-drive units get rid of the troublesome gearboxes but are heavier and more expensive than designs with gearboxes. And vertical axis turbines need not be pointed into the wind, but it’s difficult to make them larger than 1 MW. Join me as I say more about each design.
