The Forgotten Soviet Spacecraft #shorts

The Forgotten Soviet Space Legend: Buran Many people believe the American Space Shuttle was the first and only reusable spacecraft. But in 1988, the Soviet Union shocked the world with Buran - a spacecraft that was, in many ways, more advanced than its American counterpart. On November 15, 1988, Buran launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome. What made it truly revolutionary was that it flew completely unmanned. The spacecraft completed two orbits around the Earth and made a flawless automatic landing using only its onboard computers - a technological achievement far ahead of its time. Unlike the Space Shuttle, which required a crew, Buran was designed to operate entirely autonomously. It had a more advanced thermal protection system and could carry a larger payload. Unfortunately, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Buran program was canceled due to lack of funding. The only flight-worthy spacecraft was tragically destroyed in 2002 when the roof of its hangar at Baikonur collapsed under heavy snow. Today, Buran remains one of the most impressive and underappreciated achievements of Soviet cosmonautics -
