Stroum Lectures 2012: A Remarkable Modern Jewish Book

In this introductory lecture, Professor David Ruderman surveys the historical background behind the publication of Pinhas Hurwitz's Sefer ha-Brit (The Book of the Covenant) in the late 18th century. He also probes the book's popular ethical message and suggests some surprising sources for Hurwitz's notion of universal tolerance.

This lecture took place in Fall 2012 as part of the University of Washington's Stroum Lectures in Jewish Studies series.
