248 - The River Irwell Navigation - Our Most Scary Narrowboat Adventure Ever

Sorry it has been so long since we last uploaded. We have had quite an eventful start to the year.

This Vlog picks up from when we were on the Manchester Ship Canal having travelled across the River Mersey from Liverpool. We are due to head up Pomona Lock and back onto the safety of the Bridgwater Canal but Michael decides that we need one more adventure before we do that. He wants to travel as far as possible up the River Irwell as we can.

We couldn't find out much information on how to do this but the friendly people from the Water Sports Centre in Salford Quays helped us out with some advise. And as we were scheduled to go up the lock we had to set off before dawn. Not ideal after two big cruises.

It turned out to be quite a scary trip as the Irwell was flowing very fast and there wasn't much room to turn the boat. As we turned we were being pushed sideways towards some bridge arches. Luckily it all worked out well and we made it, in the rain, to Castlefield Basin.

Q• Why do you speed up some of the footage in your videos?
A• We don't, we film it as time-lapse footage. We do not have the battery capacity or data storage to film in real time as our cruises can last up to 7 or 8 hours. We use to the time-lapse footage to help tell the story of movement rather than showcase the scenery. We limit the amount of time-lapse shots we use in each vlog.
