Option Trading: Unique Expiration Dates - Daily options

20 years ago, there were only monthly stock and index option expirations - the third Friday of every month. Over the years as option trading has become more popular, we are seeing much higher option volumes and the demand for more option expiration dates is increasing. We now have many different option expiration dates (daily option expiration dates, weekly option expiration dates, month end option expiration dates, yearly option expiration dates or LEAP Options) and option expiration cycles to understand, including daily options. In this video, we cover some of the rules of unique expiration dates and how to identify these unique expiration dates.
We now have weekly options with weekly options expiration every Friday on most heavily trading stocks. We have both European and American style options that have different rules. Daily option expiration dates are even available on the most traded symbols. Daily options expiration have increased in popularity over the last few years. There are daily options for the following on SPY: Monday SPY Options, Wednesday SPY Options, Friday SPY Options.
