One string, one finger: total beginner scale! @BarrettWilson @CollingsGuitars

If you’re a beginner guitarist, here’s an easy major scale to play on just ONE STRING.

It’s called the C major scale.
Start with the 1st fret of the B string. This is the note C.
We’re going to go up the alphabet.
So the next note after C is… D, and it’s here, on the 3rd fret. You can use just one finger for this.
The next note is E, which is on the 5th fret. Again, that’s two frets higher than D.
OK, so we have C, D, E. Remember that.
Now don’t think too hard about it for now, but you’ll notice some of the notes are 1 fret apart, and some are 2 frets apart. You’ll understand why that is later.
Moving on we have… F. Which is aha, just 1 fret higher, at the 6th fret.
Then G, another 2 frets, at the 8th fret.
So far we have C, D, E, F, G.
After G, we have A, which is another 2 frets higher. At the 10th fret. So notice after G, we skip back to the beginning of the alphabet, to A.
After A, comes… B. 2 frets higher at the 12th fret.
So far we have C, D, E, F, G, A, B…
And where does it want to go next?
Back to C at the very top, 13th fret. A little hard to play on an acoustic, but just squeeze it in there.
So here’s the whole thing: C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C.
Those are the frets: 1-3-5-6-8-10-12-13.
