Green Tea Boosts Gut Health

A recent study found that consuming green tea extract for four weeks can lead to improved gut health and reduced blood sugar levels in individuals with metabolic syndrome. Surprisingly, the extract also showed benefits in healthy individuals. The study involved 40 participants, with 21 having metabolic syndrome and 19 being healthy adults. They consumed gummy confections containing green tea extract for 28 days, followed by 28 days on a placebo, with a one-month break in between. Results showed significantly lower fasting blood glucose levels after green tea extract consumption compared to the placebo. Additionally, there was a decrease in gut inflammation and permeability. These findings are particularly relevant as metabolic syndrome poses risks for various health issues, according to senior author Richard Bruno, a professor at The Ohio State University.
