Coronary Artery Bypass: Saphenous Vein Graft Preparation and Anastomosis

This video is a prime example of a traditional coronary artery bypass. The blockages in the coronary artery are not removed but will be bypassed using the saphenous vein from the leg, which is a large, superficial and subcutaneous vein. After the saphenous vein is removed from the leg, one of its ends is sewn to the largest artery of the body (aorta) and the other, past the obstruction into the coronary artery. This graft reroutes the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the heart restoring the normal cardiac function.
