The car shown in this video is a smart Fortwo 1.0 Turbo. The problem with this car is that after driving for a couple of miles the gearbox is not responding especially when willing to reverse. Regardless of how many times I tried to put the gearbox into the R position it really failed to shift. If you experiencing the same issue then this video could explain to you why the gearbox is not shifting when the engine becomes hot. The first thing to say is that the gearbox itself is very reliable and one of the few on the market with a low level of maintenance required. The part failing to shift and giving you a hard time is the actuator which fits onto the gearbox and is a very common issue for Smart cars. You have 2 options basically, the first one is to go and fix the issue in a workshop(parts+labor cost approx 500 pounds)and the second one is to reproduce what I'm doing in this video(please bear in mind that could be dangerous to do it and if you don't have technical knowledge it can be slightly difficult as well) and in the and is your decision to do it. Basically what you have to do is to take the actuator of the gearbox and grease it as I do in this video. I did this a couple of months ago and believe me no problem since then and it will not cause a problem for a long period (years).
