Did you know the short prayer we say every week before the scriptures is called the Collect? It's the prayer that gathers our adoration and reflects the liturgical season.
In this sermon, we look at why the structure of the Collect is so powerful: it keeps our focus entirely on God—who He is, what He can do, and our request for His work in our lives, followed by praise.
Consider the tax collector, who went home justified because he focused on God’s grace and mercy, not his own goodness. The Collect helps shape our prayers away from our own righteousness and toward the one who is truly just.
The challenge this week: Spend time praying the Collect multiple times a day so your life and prayers may be shaped by the goodness of God and that He may be your focus now and always!
The Collect for the Week: "Almighty and everlasting God, you govern all things both in heaven and on earth. Mercifully hear the supplications of your people, and in our time grant us your peace through Jesus Christ, our Lord...".
