A City Slicker Plans to Flip His Grandparents Old Property | Coral Island [Early Access] | Ep. 1

Coral Island is a farm sim made in the same vein as Stardew Valley. But to call it a Stardew Valley clone would be doing a huge disservice to the gaming experience still in development. What struck me most was the South East Asian influences in the game. It’s different, authentic, and daring. There’s also a real emphasis on the main story narrative that I’m really into. Its illustrations too I find to be on point. Does it have problems? Yes, but let’s be charitable because it’s in Early Access. This series may end abruptly due to the nature of early access, but come what may, I hope you’ll enjoy the journey!

Meet Januarie, an uninspired, corporate drone working Customer Support for large delivery company called Amazonia. His life takes a downward spin when he’s let go and replaced with a Machine Learning chatbot called EchoML. Not long after, his apartment rent tripled due to surrounding gentrification. Truthfully, an act he’d long seen coming as more and more of his neighbors moved or were evicted and generally pushed away from the city center.

However, as fate would have it, he received an email from the Coral Island Tourism and Resident Observation Bureau. Buried paperwork, long-standing debts, and general legalese uncovered that his grandparents once owned property on the island. With nowhere else to go, he seizes the opportunity, with the goal of flipping the property and selling it. All with the hopes of moving back to the big city and living the high life.
