Which HP Spectre x360 Should You Buy for Photo Editing?

With a number of options available to you for the HP Spectre x360 such as screen quality and components, which is the right on for your use case.

When HP reached out to me about reviewing the HP Spectre x360 I jumped at the opportunity as it is one of the highly sought after laptops for photo editors, digital artists, and graphic designers.

When they asked which one I wanted to review, I said, well both of them. Now I did not receive ALL of the variations of this laptop, but I did request the two most capable in the line-up.

The Spectre x360 with a dedicated GPU and 4k OLED screen comes with:
CPU: Intel 10th Gen Core i7-10750H (6 Cores 12 Threads)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Ti Max-Q
RAM: 16GB DDR4
Storage: 512GB SSD

And the other model that does not come with a dedicated GPU, but in fact the latest 11th Gen intel i7 processor:
CPU: Intel 11th Gen Core i7-1165G7 (4 Cores 8 Threads)
GPU: Intel Iris Xe
RAM: 16GB DDR4
Storage: 512GB SSD

For brevity's sake in this video I am going to refer to the first model with the dedicated GPU and 10th Gen H series i7 processor the x360 and the 11th Gen intel processor with the latest Xe graphics, the Xe model.

The both come in a deep matte grey of CNC machined aluminum which is sturdy and resolute to the touch. Sometimes even aluminum laptops do not feel quite aluminum due to the thinness of the aluminum. This is not the case with the x360 and Xe.

They are solid. One design choice that sets these laptops apart from any other I have seen on the market is the gold beveled edges. They are a work of art. This is one of the most regal laptops I have ever seen, and it is not TOO overdone. It does not look ostentatious. It is very tasteful.

Concerning the on the go capability of these two laptops they are both exactly the same size at:
A thickness of 0.79 inches thick and weighing in at 4.23 Lbs.

I love how thin and light these two laptops are especially being so sturdy and well designed.

Concerning battery life the
The x360 will get roughly 8 - 9 Hours Web browsing / 5 - 6 hours Design and Video Editing out of its 72.9Wh battery.
Whereas the Xe will get roughly 10 Hours Web browsing / 8 hours Design and Video Editing with its 72.9Wh battery

As I open the lid on each of these laptops I am greeted by similar but not identical 4k screens. The x360 comes with a 4k OLED screen and the Xe comes with a 4k screen but it is the non-OLED version.

The x360 with its OLED screen can reach 400 nits at full screen brightness and has a color gamut range of 100% sRGB - 99% Adobe RGB - 99% DCI-P3, all at an average Delta E of 1.74.

The Xe with its non-OLED screen can reach 340 nits at full screen brightness and has a color gamut range of 97% sRGB - 77% Adobe RGB - 79% DCI-P3, all at an average Delta E of 1.37.

My recommendation between these two? Honestly, regarding the specific use of Photoshop I don’t have one. The choice is yours. However, I will point out that if you plan on using this laptop for any video or motion design in the future than I would pick the x360 model with the H series processor and dedicated GPU as that WILL make a big difference when you start to get into video editing in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve as well as After Effects.
