How I serviced and flushed this Toyota Hilux 150 (N70) A343F 4 Speed transmission, DIY filter change, fill and flush of an auto, I said this was a 2009 but it is actually a "07 procedure is the same regardless

Never mind my greasy undercarriage left over from that cracked rocker cover, I swear one day I'll clean it all off.

As always this is just how I did it but we have tips on how to drain, change the filter screen, fill, flush and how to check your auto transmission fluid level, you don't have to flush it out you can just drain and fill, but given the condition of my fluid I chose to flush the dirty fluid out, I'd say check the fluid that drains out, if it is still red in colour a simple change is often ok.

Always check the level with the car on flat ground in PARK after putting in D and R first, engine running, a cold unit should be on the top level of COLD, take the car for a drive and get to operating temp and check, the level should be on the upper mark of HOT, it is more important to have the hot level correct as this is where the transmission will operate through it's life.

The whole kit and 12L of oil is around $250 and you can do it with basic tools and a couple of hours.

The later 5 speed Hilux autos have not dip stick and require filling through a level plug they also use different fluid

The same for pretty much all automatic transmissions (except CVT)
