Homecoming King Hands Crown Over To Classmate With Down Syndrome

During Roswell High School’s homecoming game, Trey Smith showed why he won Homecoming King immediately after being crowned.

The star quarterback removed his crown and cape and placed it on Jake Jeffries, a student with Down syndrome who helps the football team by assisting their training staff, and has run out with the team in the past.

“It felt amazing to see Jake so happy,” Trey told a local reporter.

Jake’s father Scott said he was not surprised by the incredible act of kindness. “The young men have been amazing with him,” he said. “And seeing your son accepted and part of the team is priceless.”

As a junior, Smith tallied 3,400 scrimmage yards and 41 touchdowns and committed to Furman over offers from Lehigh and Murray State. He was also First Team All-Region in baseball.

Roswell, which is north of Atlanta, is 6-1 and beat Chattahoochee on homecoming 57-13.
