Welcome to Part 2 of my three-part Mercedes-Benz W124 door lock repair series.
In Part 1, I showed why the factory door lock cylinder could not be removed without the original key. In this episode, I continue the repair by removing the passenger-side lock mechanism and performing the critical step that most repair guides never explain—drilling the factory access hole needed to release the lock cylinder.
This repair was performed on my 1992 Mercedes-Benz 400E, but the same lock design is used on many Mercedes-Benz models from this era.
After locating the exact position, I carefully drill the access hole, remove the lock cylinder, and explain each step so you can perform the repair with confidence.
Later in the video, I bring the lock assembly inside my workshop and attempt to completely disassemble the original lock cylinder in hopes of rekeying it. I walk through the internal construction, discuss possible options, and explain why rekeying this particular lock isn't practical without specialized tools or replacement components.
In this video you'll learn:
Removing the passenger door lock assembly
Loosening stubborn factory screws
Using a Ryobi impact driver in tight spaces
Locating the hidden access point
Drilling the factory access hole
Removing the seized lock cylinder
Understanding how the Mercedes lock mechanism works
Why rekeying the original cylinder is difficult
Preparing for installation in Part 3
This repair applies to many Mercedes-Benz models including:
Mercedes-Benz W124
260E
300E
300CE
300TE
300D
E320
E420
400E
500E
Similar lock designs are also found on:
W201 190E
W126 S-Class
R129 SL-Class
Early W140 S-Class (varies by year)
Model Years:
Approximately 1986–1995
