Corry Village House Tour | Pros and Cons | Includes recreation areas | helpful info in description
Things to know when you PCS to NAS Pensacola
1. K-6 education: If you live on Corry Station, your K-6 children will most likely go to school at Navy Point Elementary. Pre-K children can attend programs at Navy Point, however if they are full try the head start program, which is free of charge at https://capc-pensacola.org/head-start/. You can also apply to send your child to alternative schools if you choose.
2. Gyms: Spouses have specific gyms or pools they can utilize. The family fitness gym on Corry Station is available with children's room visibility from all sections of the gym. Action duty cannot utilize the gym unless they have a child in tow. Two pools are available as well. Check the schedule located at the gyms or the MWR facebook page for details. As a spouse, you can also utilize the Wellness Center and Wenzel located at Corry Station. If you live on NAS or prefer that location, you can utilize the Radford Gym or Portside; however childcare/play areas are not available.
3. Commissary: Be sure to bring a few bucks to tip the grocery assistant that will help you bring your groceries to your car. I usually tip $2. The Commissary is located at Corry village and the compound is open to the public. You will need your DoD ID card to enter the building; however, if you have relatives or friends with you, they can tag along, but cannot purchase anything. The NEX is also located on Corry Station next to the Commissary along with the Package Store where alcohol is sold. Again, you will need your DoD ID Card to make a purchase.
4. Running trails: If you’re a runner there are trails with a view around the perimeter of Corry Station as well as NAS Pensacola. I prefer the trails at NAS Pensacola because you have the option of beach view, wooded or simply around the buildings. Be mindful of Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen or Marines en route to their destinations. Their mission comes first.
5. Activities: MWR and USO activities are a must! Follow their pages and definitely check out their events. It’s a great place to meet other spouses and have some fun.
6. Spouse community: Check out the NAS Pensacola spouse groups on Facebook and the spouse group through the USO. It’s a great place to meet others and pass on information that will make your stay more enjoyable.
7. Health care: Naval Hospital Pensacola is located a mile from Corry Village. Due to Covid-19 the wait to schedule an appointment can be long; however I’ve gotten lucky and was able to squeeze in next day appointments when others cancel.
8. Blue Angels: NAS Pensacola is the home to the Blue Angels. They practice often and you will definitely see them flying low in formation at some point. If you enjoy watching the Angels fly, attend their practice at NAS Pensacola just behind the Naval Museum. Check out our video of their practice on this channel. Practice is usually on Wednesdays from 1030-1100. The practice is free and food and drink is available for purchase. The practice is also narrated by volunteers that truly enjoy supporting their Angels and seeing a large crowd to watch them. The Angels also set time aside for autographs at least once a month. Check their schedule at https://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/blueangels/.
9. Fun with the kids: There are some things to do with the kids around the station. Barranca Beach, Mustin Pool, forts, playgrounds, baseball fields, beach volleyball, soccer fields, basketball courts, station library, and more.
10. Pensacola weather: Be patient with the weather. It rains often in Pensacola. It seems to roll in without warning at times. Thunderstorms are also common and the Summer is humid. But above all, it’s Sunny most days, which is a welcomed change for our coming from Wisconsin.
