Frozen Bakery (1957)

East Finchley, London.
C/U of a big square currant cake, a man's hand holds the cake as he tries to cut it with a carving knife, he is unsuccessful so he puts the knife down and picks up a hammer and chisel. C/U as he chips off slabs of the cake. The man is engineer Hubert Smith, C/U of his face, M/S as he chips away at the cake, the narrator explains that these items have been frozen as this keeps them fresher for longer. M/S as he puts the hammer and chisel down and picks up a frozen swiss roll, he breaks it in half. C/U as he presses the centre of each half.
Interior, Henry Miller Bakery. C/U of dough being mixed in an automatic mixer, M/S of the machine at work, Ted Watson comes up and flicks a switch on the wall, the mixer stops. M/S as he turns a wheel which lifts the whisk up. C/U profile of his face as he does this. M/S as he turns the wheel and picks the dough off the whisk. C/U of the wheels, M/S as he lifts the whisk and pulls the large barrel of dough out from under the machine. M/S of John Legg stood by a machine, Ted wheels the barrel of dough over to him. C/U as John takes a handful of dough and cuts it off. He puts it in a slot at the top of the machine and closes it. This machine separates and moulds the dough. M/S of the machine as it mixes the dough into little moulds, C/U of metal moulds and the little piles of dough moving along the conveyor belt. M/S of two ladies at the other end of the machine putting the dough onto big trays, one lady takes the tray away and the other moves an empty one into its place. M/S of a man taking a tray of dough from a shelf and putting it on a big paddle held by Fred Bean who then puts it into a large oven and shuts the door. He opens a door above it and takes out a tray of baked rolls, the other man takes it from him. C/U of the rolls.
M/S of Ted in a duffle coat with his hood up, he is pulling stacks of bread rolls in baskets. A lady opens the door to a walk in freezer and Ted pulls the trolley full of rolls inside. M/S from inside the freezer as he walks in with the bread. He puts the rolls next to some others and pulls the trolley out. M/S as he checks the temperature, C/U of thermometer, M/S of ice on the wall, and a trolley of buns.
