Can We Solve Climate AND Inequality at the Same Time? (Piketty's Plan)

The world today is shaped by two crises that almost everyone treats as separate: a climate crisis and an inequality crisis. The Global Justice Report — published in 2026 by Thomas Piketty, Lucas Chancel, Nitin Kumar Bharti and Anmol Moshrif at the World Inequality Lab — argues they're the same crisis. And it lays out a numbered, costed plan to address both at once.

This video is a neutral 3-minute walkthrough of what the report actually says.

We cover all four climate scenarios the authors model:
+4.8°C — persistent inequality + no action
+4.9°C — productivist business-as-usual
+3.3°C — sufficiency-only (rich countries cut, poor countries don't grow)
+1.8°C — sustainable convergence (the report's recommended path)

Then the redistribution math: the bottom 50% of the world owning 30% of wealth (up from 2% today), billionaires holding 0.05% (down from 6%), and global income converging toward roughly €5,000/month per adult — a 4× increase for sub-Saharan Africa, a 30% decrease for North America.

Then the funding mechanism: a Global Justice Fund seeded by a 0–2% wealth tax on multimillionaires and a graduated income tax. Estimated take: 10.3% of world GDP per year — about 20× current global development aid.

Then the historical reparations gap (0.8% of GDP transferred vs. 3.2% owed) and the IMF voting overhaul the report proposes (one country, one vote — by 2050).

This is not an endorsement. It's an explanation. The point is to make sure the proposal — and its actual numbers — are understandable to anyone, whatever they think of it.
