Rust in Irrigation System

Are you dealing with rust in or around your home? This video won’t show you how to get rid of current rust (although there are ways!) but video will show you how to prevent it from ever happening in the first place.

Well water naturally has high levels of nickel and iron which oxidize and over time, turns things that rust color. It can stain cars, cement, homes, and even fences.

Use rust stain remover for current stains, and click to watch for a tutorial on prevention.

We recommend getting a sprinklerite tank. It works by adding a solution to the tank which in turn, is slowly added to your water supply. The solution counteracts the oxidized particles in the water.

You’ll need:
A pair of pliers
Teflon tape
Drill
Appropriate sized bit
The instruction book to the tank

Drill a hole in the irrigation line taking care to drill the line before the pump. Make sure you drill slowly to prevent breaking the pipe. Thread the hole (if your purchased valve screws in) and install the valve. To help prevent leaks use some teflon tape then screw the valve into your threaded hole. Connect the hoses and fill the tank with water. Once it is full to the top add the appropriate amount of no rust solution to the tank. To find your appropriate amount be sure to send a sample of your water off in the enclosed packaging that should have come with your tank.

We hope this tutorial was helpful and remember to call Building Inspection Services for any questions.
