UPS SurePost Ends Delivery Contract with USPS, Causing Disruption for Customers

The beginning of the new year saw the expiration of the delivery contract between United Parcel Service (UPS) SurePost and the U.S. Postal Service (USPS), ending a long-standing arrangement where the Postal Service completed the final miles of delivery for UPS packages. With this change, customers who rely on USPS for deliveries to post office boxes, Army posts, and Navy fleets must now make alternative arrangements for their shipments.

Some affected customers, like Pam Loeb from Vermont, expressed frustration over the lack of notification about the change, especially small business owners who worry about the broader economic impact. While USPS claims to have communicated the change transparently since spring 2024, customers remain concerned about the logistical hurdles. UPS recommends using UPS store mailboxes for customers without a valid street address. This shift marks a significant disruption in the delivery process, especially for those relying on the USPS for package receipt and final-mile delivery.
