Apollo 11: Command Module Returned Crew to Earth #nasa

Apollo 11's Command Module (Columbia) was the only spacecraft that returned from the moon. It carried astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins back to Earth on July 24, 1969. While the Lunar Module Eagle stayed back on the moon and remains there to this day. Its Descent Stage sits on the lunar surface where it landed, and its Ascent Stage was jettisoned in lunar orbit and crashed on the moon's surface. Only the Command Module and its crew made the journey home to Earth, while the Lunar Module Eagle stayed back on the moon—a permanent monument to humanity's first lunar landing.
