10Gb Ethernet on Mac Mini M4 – Thunderbolt SFP+ Adapter Test (Real NAS Speeds)

10G network adapter for Mac Mini, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, and MacBook Neo. In this video I test a Thunderbolt / USB4 dual SFP+ 10GbE adapter and upgrade my Mac Mini M4 to dual 10-gigabit networking (20Gbps total bandwidth) with real NAS performance tests.

This same adapter can also add 10Gb Ethernet to MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, and other Thunderbolt / USB4 Macs, making it an easy way to upgrade Apple devices that don’t have built-in 10GbE.

I connected the Mac Mini to my 10G home network and NAS running Samba file sharing with SSD and HDD storage to test real-world performance.

What I Tested

✔ iPerf bandwidth performance
✔ Large single-file transfer speeds
✔ Real Final Cut Pro project library transfer
✔ Thermal performance and passive cooling behavior
✔ Real workflow impact

Real Performance Results

• 14GB single file transfer → ~1 GB/s
• 100GB Final Cut Pro library → 2 min 40 sec (~625 MB/s sustained)

That’s close to 10× faster than standard Gigabit networking in real production workloads.

If you use a NAS, edit video, run a homelab, or move large datasets, upgrading to 10Gb networking can completely change your workflow.
