Pipeline AUT offshore lay barge

This is the typical way an offshore pipeline is made, on a barge (ship) prior to being lowered into the ocean floor.
further behind these guys there are a few elding stations where the 18m long pipe sections are being welded together, and our station is where the weld inspection is taking place.
First a steel band is placed around the pipe the guide the scanner, the the scanner is put on, the pipe is cleaned of dirt and wetted with soapy water to break the surface tension of the steel, to avoid the water just peeling of, like on a freshly washed car.
The scanner drives around and back, and the viewing of the Ultrasonic Data is viewed in an operators room in another location.
Finally a calibration (verification) of the scanner for acurateness is carried out.
All in all, 3 minutes betweens scans.
On the next station the weld is cleaned, insulated and protected from the ocean, before it exist out the back of the barge.
