I Lost My Green Card but I'm Eligible for Citizenship?

What happens if I lost my green card but I'm eligible to apply for citizenship? Firstly, do everything you can do avoid losing your green card. The best method we've seen is carrying around a photocopy of your green card everywhere you go and leaving the real green card somewhere safe at home.
If you have lost your green card, or you believe it has been stolen, file a police report right away. At your naturalization interview you will be expected to sign an affidavit that says you've lost your green card and if you find it you will return it after you gain citizenship.
In order to travel outside of the country you should apply for a replacement green card and use the receipt you receive until you receive your replacement green card.
