Theatre/dance companies around the world are among the realities most affected by the spread of the corona virus. While shops and restaurants are slowly reopening and workers are gradually returning to their offices, theatres remain closed.

Theatres, concert halls, opera houses and cinemas were the first to close, and they will be the last to reopen completely. The 20/21 theatre season is already under threat: theatres faced with uncertainty about the rules under which (and if) they can reopen are already cancelling performances planned for next year.

When will the theatres reopen?
And when they reopen, will the audience feel comfortable sitting next to an unknown person in a theatre until a vaccine is found?

Theatre groups tour regionally, but also internationally, when will the borders be reopened?
And when they do, will it be safe to travel? Will the ensemble receive the necessary visas to enter the different countries?

The theatres were able to present your preferred theatre company and make an appointment because you bought the ticket to see their performance, and your preferred company was able to create the show and performance that you liked, mainly because of the tickets you bought.

But closed theatres do not mean performances, which means no tickets are sold, and no tickets sold means no jobs for 1.7 million people, in Germany alone.

While public institutions all over the world have promised help for the cultural sector, the touring companies in particular are often left empty-handed.

The future and existence of every theatre and dance company you have seen and loved is now in danger. It can disappear before the virus does.
