The Nikon 40mm f/2.8G lens is a true macro, offering a 1:1 scale at its closest focus setting, but it also serves as a solid prime lens. Although the same can't be said for the build quality. Compatible with all Nikon DX DSLRs which includes, but is not limited to: Nikon D5500, D3300, D5300, D7100, D5200, D3200, D7000, D300S and D90.

(5:13) For you who are too lazy to watch, here's the breakdown:
+ this lens offers a really good one to one macro scale,
+ its 40mm focal length is versatile as it's midway between 35 and 50
+ it's at a great price
+ it has a good f stop range, from f/2.8 to f/22.
However,
x it's not suitable for you moving macro photographers as
the wide focal length requires you to get quite close to your subject
x the focal length can feel like a compromise at times
x the build is rather cheap

Overall I think this is a really good lens for someone looking into macro for the first time.
