Dr. Manmohan Singh Biography First Sikh Prime Minister of India.

Dr. Manmohan Singh is an eminent economist and politician who was born on 26th September, 1932 at Gah in Punjab of undivided India. He is the first Sikh who served as Prime Minister of India from 2004-2014 and the only person after Jawahar lal Nehru who make a comeback after serving for the post of prime Minister for full five year’s term. Dr. Manmohan Singh was a brilliant student in his academic career. In 1952, he completed his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in 1954. Later then, he got a degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge. In 1962, he earned D.Phil in Economics from Oxford University.
Dr. Manmohan Singh married Gursharan Kaur in 1958 and blessed with three daughters named Upinder Singh, Amrit Singh and Daman Singh. He held prominent positions at different organisations before starting his political career. In 1966, he started his career with United Nations. Dr. Manmohan Singh also hold posts as an advisor for Foreign Trade Ministry, Chief economic Advisor for Government of India, Governor at Reserve Bank of India as well as Head of Planning Commission. Later then, he started his political career in 1991 when India was facing serious economic crisis. He was appointed as Finance Minister by P.V. Narsimha Rao, Prime Minister of India. Additionally from 1998-2004, he was the leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha. He has also written “India’s Export Trends and Prospects for Self-Sustained Growth” book in 1964. The articles of Dr. Manmohan Singh have been also published in several economics journals. He has also won several awards including Padma Vibhushan, Euromoney, Asiamoney etc for his dedication and performance.
