1 MINUTE AGO: DANA WHITE OFFICIALLY HIRES CRAWFORD AFTER STRIP FORM BOX — "WELCOME IN UFC CHAMP!"
TERENCE CRAWFORD VS WBC: THE $300,000 BELT DISPUTE
Terence “Bud” Crawford has unleashed one of the most explosive rants of his career after being officially stripped of his WBC super middleweight title, just three months after defeating Canelo Alvarez and becoming the undisputed champion at 168 lbs.
The WBC claims Crawford refused to pay the reduced sanctioning fee of $300,000, of which $225,000 was meant for the Jose Sulaiman Boxers Fund. WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman publicly criticized Crawford, saying he didn’t comply with the rules and never apologized — and that’s when everything exploded.
Crawford fired back with an eight-minute, profanity-filled Instagram rant that instantly went viral. He said the WBC thinks they’re “better than every other sanctioning body,” blasted Sulaiman for favoritism toward Canelo, and questioned why fighters are forced to pay sanctioning fees while risking their lives in the ring. Crawford doubled down by saying the WBC belt is just a trophy, and the only title that really matters is the free Ring Magazine belt, which he still holds as the lineal champion.
Crawford also revealed he supports the new boxing league being developed by Turki Alalshikh and Dana White, which would eliminate sanctioning bodies altogether. He accused Sulaiman of being upset about him beating Canelo, brought up double standards with mandatory challengers, and exposed what he sees as corruption in boxing’s outdated system.
Despite being stripped, Crawford insists he is still the true undisputed champion, showing off his belts and declaring that no organization can take away what he earned inside the ring.
Meanwhile, the WBC moves forward with Sheeraz vs. Mbilli for the now-vacant belt, while the boxing world debates whether sanctioning bodies still have any future — especially with major players pushing for reform.
Was Crawford right to refuse to pay the fee? Should boxers continue funding sanctioning bodies that don’t step foot in the ring?
Drop your thoughts in the comments and stay tuned — this story is far from over.
