Echolaliator - interactive improviser (test)
This is an initial test of the Echolaliator, an interactive computer improvisation tool. The system listens to incoming audio and records short segmented phrases. Each time the player pauses, the system responds, playing one of the stored phrases that is similar to what it just heard (in this early version, similiarity is measured by the length of the phrase, and shape of the amplitude envolope). it also occasionally generates repeating patterns, made up of sequences of recorded sounds. In this case, I am playing it with my Fender Rhodes electronic piano. The echolaliator can only play back things it has previously heard, so it also plays electric piano sounds in this case. The system can also be used with a microphone and record and respond with any sound. It is implemented in javascript for the Chrome browser using p5.js.
