🧬 More muscle and less visceral fat linked to slower brain ageing

A new study presented at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), involving 1,164 healthy adults, found that higher muscle mass and lower hidden belly fat were associated with a younger-appearing brain on MRI. Researchers suggest this may be because visceral fat drives inflammation, while muscle supports healthier metabolism and blood flow—factors thought to help protect the ageing brain.

The authors note the findings show association rather than cause and effect, but say the results add to growing evidence that preserving muscle and reducing deep abdominal fat through exercise and diet may support long-term brain health.
