Anthony “Butchie” Vallario: The Quiet Wiseguy and the Debt that ended in Tragedy

Anthony “Butchie” Vallario was a well-known bookmaker and Gambino associate—respected, non-violent, and sharp in both dress and business. But behind the calm exterior was a tragic story. In 2016, a New Jersey bookie named Patrick Deluise took a $50K loan from Vallario to fund his wife’s cancer treatment. Over four years, he paid nearly $130,000 in interest—with no end in sight. Desperate and under mounting pressure from both the loan and a federal gambling probe, Deluise offed himself in a parked car.

The loan was part of a wider $10 million gambling ring, and court records showed Vallario’s wife, daughter, and son-in-law helped manage the scheme. Deluise’s last words to a friend said it all: “He’s a f------ wiseguy. I just can’t pay it anymore.” Vallario passed away in 2021, but his name remains tied to one of the mob’s most heartbreaking tales.
