How did the Jacobite Rebellion Actually Happen?
The beginning of our timeline can be placed at the close of the 1688 Glorious Revolution in England. When the Catholic King James II of England and Ireland and VII of Scotland was ousted and exiled to France alongside his wife and infant son, he was shortly replaced by his Protestant daughter Mary, and her husband, William of Orange. This stirred up outrage from both Catholics and supporters of the House of Stuart alike, and those who believed that only God could appoint a monarch - not Parliament, which had decided in both England and Scotland that James II had vacated the throne and would consequently be succeeded by Mary and William.
