First Lessons in Baking Bread: Part 1
Baking a great loaf of bread takes knowing the nuances for success. This video explains nuances and details about equipment, ingredients, and provides tips to avoid common errors. It is a longer video because of the expert detail provided and is especially designed for beginners.
Basic White Bread Recipe
Makes 2 large loaves--use 5"x9" loaf pans
6.5 cups flour
2 TBS Yeast
3 TBS Sugar
Mix 5 cups of flour, yeast and sugar in mixing bowl then sprinkle 1.5 tsp salt on top and gently mix.
Add 2.5 cups warm water (85-90°F) and 3 TBS oil
Stir with wooden spoon until liquid is absorbed, adding additional flour if needed until soft dough consistency is achieved.
Knead dough until gluten is developed. Follow process shown in video.
Place dough in oiled bowl and allow to rise until nearly double.
Remove dough from bowl and de-gas on counter. Divide into 2 parts and shape into loaves and proof. Bake in 375°F preheated oven for about 40 minutes.
