EXTRA INFO/ CLOSED CAPTIONS:

The VW vans have really become an iconic image over the years that represents Freedom & adventure.

The classic pop-top gives the westfalia a unique silhouette that is instantly recognizable. Not only that, but the tent pop-up allows for so much extra head room, & more than enough space to sleep 4 people comfortably.

This particular van was rented from a local Vancouver company called Honest Camper, that is run by a single dad named William. William has a small fleet of 4 different vans, 2 VW westfalias liek this one, a sprinter and a Mercedes Metris. But of all those options, I feel like the classic VW has the most charm, making it a unique experience to travel in.

Although this vehicle is pushing 35 years old, William completely rebuilt and restored Rose to her original glory. The interior was thoughtfully updated to be minimal & timeless. The upholstery is a warm sand colour that is light enough to keep everything feeling airy on the inside of the vehicle. All of the other finishings are done in white which allows you to focus on the beautiful scenery outside the many windows.

That’s one thing I love about these old VW’s, the amount of windows & natural light you get really keeps you feeling connected to nature even though you’re in an enclosed space. My issue with sprinter vans is typically that they’re darker on the inside and built ins can prevent you from having that same connection with the outdoors.

One thing I love about this van is it is build without upper cabinets. WIlliam kept the sight lines super clear making all of the storage compact to one long, continuous cabinet along the left side of the vehicle.

This design allows you to access your belongings, cook or hangout in the space whether the bed is set up, or converted into a couch.

Another thing to note, is there was also a cute little table you can set up which is perfect if you need to do some work on the road, or want a surface to comfortably eat on indoors.

Speaking of eating indoors, having the full kitchen unit really made packing & preparing food a breeze.

Having a little sink to do dishes, brush your teeth or rinse things made life on the road so simple.

PERFORMANCE:

The vehicle definitely drives a little different than your average car, but overall Alex had a really fun time cruising the VW Van.

When William restored the vehicle, he actually replaced the old engine with a new Ford Focus model giving the vehicle more longevity.

Overall, when you’re driving it’s definitely a lot louder than our little Golf, but after the first 10 minutes of driving the engine noise fades out & you stop noticing it.

Also while driving, the front seats are located on top of the van’s axel, so you’re definitely in the crumple zone, but if you’re driving safely this isn’t too much of a problem (hopefully).
