So the first thing I change is this annoying hot cue setting.

If I press a cue point, the track will immediately start playing.

This is incredibly frustrating because if you want to just trigger a section of the song, to cue and ready it, you’ll have to press the cue point, then stop playing the track.

So to disable this;

Go to settings, click on controller, scroll down, and in the hot cue section, press “During pause, gate is applied”*

And now you’re set

2nd thing I do is adjust the vinyl break speed adjust.

Normally, if you stop a track it’ll immediately stop

Nothing wrong with that, but for me, that sounds too robotic. I want to have a vinyl break stopping sound effect when I stop a track.

So to adjust that, in the controller section locate vinyl speed adjust, and bring the knobs of deck 1,3, and 2,4 to the 1pm position.

There you go much better. Now you can do quick transitions like this!

Bonus tip!

If you want your scratching to be razor sharp,

In the settings section, go to controller, then go to mixer, the locate the crossfader curve section and bring the knob all the way to the right side
curve*

Now, the 3rd thing I do is adjust my latency settings on my software. This basically makes your software more or less responsive.

And as a DJ who likes to perform, I want to have the tightest scratching and drumming responsiveness as possible.

So to get that, click on settings, then click audio, and then bring the buffer size closer to the left side. Don’t bring it all the way to the left, because your computer may malfunction. *Right about here, should be enough*

So those are my settings on Rekordbox DJ, let’s now have some fun on the DDJ-400. So in this section of this video, we’re gonna explore 2 creative ways to play with your track.

The first method involves using the PAD FX section of your controller.

To activate PAD FX on your controller, just press shift then BEAT LOOP or BEAT JUMP. Now your pads can be used to activate fun effects like ROLL, TRANS and the VINYL Break stop effect.

You can also personalize your PAD FX functions.

Now the last trick I wanna teach you involves the Keyshift sub function.

To access keyshift, just press shift then the Sampler button.

Now your default pad section can increase the key of the song.

So pad 5 will be the default key of the song, and pads, 6,7,8 and 1,2,3,4 will act as pads that increase the key of the song in that order.

So what I usually like to do with this section is play around with the pad 6,7,8 and 5, during sections of a song to sorta remix the track on the fly.
