Hostage negotiator warns Israel-Hamas ceasefire deal could still be ‘knocked off course’

Hostage negotiator and author Scott Walker warns the hostage and prisoner swap between Israel and Hamas does not get more “dangerous and precarious” than right now as the four-day ceasefire looks set to begin.

The Israeli cabinet agreed to a deal with the terror group to secure the release of captives after tense negotiations extended into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Qatari-mediated ceasefire agreement will see the release of about 30 kidnapped children, eight mothers and 12 more women being held in Gaza by Hamas.

“This is the most dangerous, challenging time of any hostage negotiation,” Mr Walker told Sky News Australia.

“This is the time when things can go wrong, assumptions can be made, mistakes can be made and both sides will be very, very sensitive to things that are going to get in the way and knock this ceasefire off course.”
