Cyber fraudsters have found a new weapon: the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Form. This is a massive scam running across the country, using the voter ID update process as a cover. Nearly 67,000 people have been scammed by similar methods recently.
THE HARD TRUTH: The Election Commission has officially clarified that the entire SIR Form process does NOT require any OTP (One-Time Password) for approval or verification.
The Scam Tactics Explained: Fraudsters call you, often posing as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) or verification staff. They claim your verification or KYC for the SIR form is pending. If you have submitted your mobile number while filling the form, they use that information. They then create urgency (जल्दबाजी) and fear (भय), threatening that if you do not share the OTP, your name will be removed from the voter list.
🛑 The Threat: They demand the OTP sent to your mobile. The moment you give them that code, your entire Bank Account will be wiped clean (पैसे गायब). This is Social Engineering, exploiting your anxiety and fear. They may also send you malicious links, ask you to download an app (malware), or scan a QR code.
🛡️ HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF:
1. REFUSE: If any stranger calls and asks for an OTP for the SIR Form, immediately understand it is fraud.
2. NEVER SHARE: In any situation, do not share an OTP with an unknown person. Sharing the OTP is linked to your security, data, and rights.
3. REPORT: If they threaten you or persist, tell them you will visit the office or inform your real BLO. Without delay, take the help of the State Police (राज्य पुलिस की मदद लें) and file a complaint at your nearest station.
Important Note: The core components of these scams (QR code, Link, App) remain the same, but the approach changes constantly (from marriage cards to RTO challans, and now the SIR Form) to bypass public awareness.
