Zooming in on Polaris (The North Star) with Nikon P1000

This was one of my first videos with the Nikon P1000. I've since become better at focusing and understanding what these objects are supposed to look like. Check out my videos on Arcturus and Sirius.
Are stars 100's or 1000's of light years away? Or are they much closer in the firmament? Stars seem to be pulses of frequency and colors, not burning balls of gases light years away.
